I checked online and Flip identified an issue with its firmware that sometimes caused an error when using the Flip Video software on a PC or MAC. They issued a firmware fix at:

Not sure if this is related to the problems you have seen, but maybe that's why I have seen no issues. I don't use PC or MAC so I don't use the Flip software at all. I just pull the video off of the USB mass storage mounted filesystem when it's connected to my Linux system.

Since I am a user group manager, we all got one (hundreds of us) for the Flex/AIR launch event. We had a faulty one, and my new one is also faulty.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about that particular issue. The people I know that own Flips have not had any issues with them.

The Flip Video has some serious issues with their software. Many people once they take a video can not get the video off due to the software. They'll give you a new camera, but the video is gone.
