AlternaGeek.com Podcast, Episode 10 for the week of August 13th, 2007
Featuring Linuxchic, Code Ninja and TechMonkey.

As a celebration of our entry into double digits, we spend a little bit of time chatting before getting into the technical side of things. We discuss our initial feelings of the new Yappd service, virus protection on linux as well as different email clients. TechMonkey schools us on mod_parmguard, a module for Apache to protect scripts and web forms .

Best part about untangle is - it’s free! There are a few subscriber services for “enterprise” distribution. Also, am testing in a lab environment…seems Untangle may be limited to something less than 1000 users - per their techies as well. Great for small networks though!

We’re planning on doing a more thorough review of Untangle’s offering in one of our upcoming episodes.

As Codeninja was not exactly fishing for compliments, but fishing for comments … here we go.

    PROS:
From my personal view this is one of the most entertaining episodes. It always helps having some
chit-chat and not only “just facts”. Guess its hard to get the balance right :)

    CONS:
    One word: Volume
I dont know if it’s only me, but I guess my iPod is not badder than others iPod. Normally I adjust the volume for the AG podcast manually, but today I had no time before I left the building …
Especially in the second half linuxchic has been way to quiet. But I guess she moved away from the microphone ?

    SUMMARY:
Neat cast. My personal suggestion would be to keep the “Episode #10″ style. Maybe a little less chit-chat (but not much).
And for double digits: You already had double digits before …

Why ? Remember the old joke:
There are only 10 types of people, those who understand binary jokes and those who don’t.

    Keep the good work,
    with best regards,
    Eol

Thanks so much for the input! This is very helpful feedback. We are always looking for ways to make the podcast better and more entertaining but it’s hard to gauge what works best. Feedback like this lets us know if we are on the right track or not. Once again, thanks for the feedback and thanks for listening!

I spoke already with linuxchic, but it seems chapters can only made with a mac :(
