The Mobile SysAdmin
Life takes us off the WiFi grid and it should, but your servers might not be so sympathetic. What do you do when you get a page while on the sidelines at your kid’s soccer playoffs or catching that sold out concert? Here are a few ways to help you keep your servers happy and help you maintain your life:
MidpSSH Mobile SSH/Telnet Client Midp SSH is a java based application for use on mobile devices and phones that are Java capable. This program has been released under the GPL and is my top pick for SSH access.
MidpSSH provides SSH (Secure Shell) and Telnet functionality on mobile devices such as cellphones. This is really useful for people who need to access a server wherever they are, without carrying around a computer or searching for an Internet connection.
This company has it all from SSH to Telnet to Citrix to Windows and Active Directory server management. Exchange having issues? Yeah, you can work on that too. Free Trials are available on their site.
Mobile Admin allows IT administrators to use their wireless handheld to securely manage network servers including Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL; Lotus Domino; Oracle; Citrix Presentation Servers; BlackBerry Enterprise Servers and much more. Mobile Admin also offers extensive security options in both encryption and authentication so that its implementation will meet the most stringent network security requirements. Works with BlackBerry devices, Palm devices including Treo and Tungsten, Windows Mobile (Pocket PC and Smartphone) devices, Nokia phones Series 60 and 80, Motorola phones, Sony Ericsson phones as well as Any computer or device with an Internet connection and browser (to access the Mobile Admin web interface).
Mobile SSH gives you Telnet and SSH1/SSH2 terminal access to a wide range of network devices and applications from your wireless handheld. Mobile SSH supports VT100, IBM 5250, and IBM 3270 terminal emulation. Works on BlackBerry devices, Nokia phones Series 60 and 8, Motorola phones, Sony Ericsson phones.
Mobile Citrix Client brings true application virtualization to your BlackBerry smartphone! Use ANY Windows application that is published on your Citrix Presentation Server.
Mobile Desktop lets you create connections to almost any computer from your wireless handheld, then view the screen and even control the keyboard or mouse of the remote computer. Using Mobile Desktop, you can access files, manage computers, run a web browser, run any application, or provide remote support, all right from your BlackBerry device or Nokia, Motorola, or Sony Ericsson phone!
Terminal for the Sidekick by Danger, Inc: Supports VT-100 terminal emulation for SSH and Telnet connections. Available in the download catalog on Sidekicks. The fee is a little steep at $9.99 for what little it does. On a side note, I discovered that anyone can join the Danger development community to contribute applications for the Sidekick. How very awesome.
